Incubator - Integrated Quail Experiments on Mir

Quail Eggs Packaged for Flight

Quail eggs packaged for flight. Once they arrived on Mir, they were placed in an incubator to continue developing. Researchers performed postflight analyses on the embryos to determine the effects of microgravity on avian development, specifically development of the visuo-vestibular system, bone formation and mineralization, blood vessel formation, respiratory function and sexual development.
