Micrometeoroid/Debris Photo Survey of Mir

During the Debris survey of the Space Station Mir, Space Shuttle photography and video noted large areas of external paint damage to the Spektr module. The damage was first visible a month after the module docked to the station and was measured to be approximately 550 cm². Four months later, the area had increased by over 50%. Photographs like this one help International Space Station designers make decisions on the types of materials that will be used to build the new Space Station.
