PAS Experiment

Passive Accelerometer System (PAS) consisted of a 2-cm diameter glass tube filled with water and containing a 0.2 cm diameter steel ball. The accelerometer was used on the Mir Space Station to measure low-level accelerations caused by atmospheric drag. Records were made on the drift of the inertial measurement ball. Therefore, PAS provided a visual reference of low level acceleration to the Mir crew. In this photograph, the PAS is seen mounted to the wall of the Mir Space Station.
