Shuttle-Mir Spacecraft

Space Shuttle Atlantis connected to Russia's Mir Space Station - photographed by the Mir-19 crew on July 4, 1995.

The U. S. Space Shuttle orbiter and Russia's Mir space station combined to create the largest structure ever placed into orbit, with a combined mass of 250 tons. They took their place in a history of pioneering spacecraft going back over 40 years.
